SCS KB 1026: Troubleshooting VM Freeze after ESXi agentless backup

Use Case

You perform an agentless backup of a VMWare virtual machine using an ESXi appliance.

Symptoms

After you run the backup task, virtual machines show unexpected behavior, e.g. VM temporarily freezes or permanently freezes after logging into the VM.

Root Cause

If the freeze or other unexpected behavior happens after a successful backup of a VM, the issue may be caused by the specifics of virtual machine configuration. 

Workaround

If adjusting configuration to avoid errors during agentless backup is not possible, as a workaround, you can install Agent for Windows / Agent for Linux inside the virtual machine and perform agent-based backup.
