SCS KB 1025: The target size of the virtual disk is not supported by the selected virtual machine

Use Case:

Restoration of a backup and with a VHD set to 2 TB.

Symptoms:

Run into error stating "The target size of the virtual disk is not supported by the selected virtual machine."

Root Cause:

During restore additional components are added to the VHD file, exceeding the file size limitation for VHD.

Workaround:

1. Create a new VM in Hyper-V with the specifications matching the original VM
2. Attach the Acronis Boot Media iso to the VM and complete the restore as if it was a physical machine.
