Applies to:
- Acronis SCS Cyber Backup 12.5 Hardened Edition
- Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5
- Acronis Cyber Protect 15
Symptoms
You are using Agent for VMware or Agent for Hyper-V to protect virtual machines in agentless mode.
In addition to agentless backup, you installed one or several of the following Agents inside a VM:
- Agent for Windows
- Agent for Linux
- Agent for SQL
- Agent for Exchange
Machine with Agent appears twice in the list of All devices: once as a virtual machine, once as a virtual machine with an agent inside.
On the screenshots below, ABA15_MSandAcronisBackupAppliance15is the same virtual machine:
When Agent is installed inside the VM, then the device name matches DNS name.
When VM is protected by agentless backup, the device name is the name shown in the corresponding hypervisor client (for example vSphere client).
Cause
Current product design.
Acronis plans to improve product behavior in future versions: virtual machines with Agent inside will be shown only once in All devices list.
More information
If you have Virtual Host or Universal license already assigned to either VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V, then VMs running on these hosts are automatically covered by this license, including VMs which have backup agents running inside them.
In other words, you can use both agent-less and agent-based protection approach for these VMs with the same license.
